Project works originating from the recreational study have recently commenced.

Project works originating from the recreational study have recently commenced along a section of the Sankey Canal extending from Fiddlers Ferry to the boundary at Widnes. Works comprise reed cutting and removal, installation of new canal side platforms and new seating. Completion is expected at the end of February. These  Phase 1 works will recreate open water sections within the canal providing new habitats for wildlife and also improve access for users.

Funding of £70,000 has been secured to finance the project comprising a £50,000 grant award from the Waste Recycling Group Ltd and £20,000 from the Environment Agency. A working group of officers from Warrington Borough Council, Environment Agency, Scottish & Southern Power, members of the Sankey Canal Restoration Society (SCARS) and Dallam & District Angling Group is managing the project.
